Ice Skate Frame
What does one do when Olympic gold medal winner Tara Lapinsky is coming to town....make an ice skate frame, duh. When I was putting it together though I realized how great it would be for commemorating so many milestones - ballet slippers for that first performance, baby shoes for those first steps, wedding shoes for that first marriage....well you know what I mean.
MATERIALS
Frame
Spray paint
Accent craft paint
Silk or preserved greenery
Pine cones, silk flowers, dried berries or ribbon
Floral wire
Cup hook
STEPS
I started with a dark frame (yes, because it was on sale) and gave it a nice coat of white spray paint as my base color. This obviously isn’t needed if you the frame you have works as is.
I then chose a color of craft paint that matched the lining of the skates and watered it down to work as an accent paint. Brush it on, making sure to get in all the books and crannies, and then quickly wipe it off with a rag.
Arrange your greenery into a swag. You can use silks or preserved, I chose glycerine treated eucalyptus since it had a touch of the same green as the frame. I secured the swag with floral wire. With additional wire I attached pine cones to cover the juncture.
Attach the cup hook to the middle of the frame and slide your tied shoelaces and finally your swag on top.
Presto, instant memorabilia!
